As a user, it is normal to want to clear your Reddit history and start over without deleting your account. This is essential because deleting your Reddit account does not automatically delete your Reddit history. As such, taking care of your history before you call it quits on your account is essential. Here is how to delete your Reddit history.
Deleting your Reddit history
Reddit does not have any one-sweep approach to deleting your Reddit history – which is really just deleting your posts and comments. You will have to delete your posts and comments individually as a result. Nevertheless, there are also third-party apps that you can use instead to clear your Reddit history in one go.
Deleting your history manually
Desktop website
As discussed, deleting your history manually involves deleting your posts and comments individually. To delete your posts on the Reddit desktop website, visit your profile, as it itemizes all the posts you have made on the platform. To go to your profile, locate the dropdown icon next to your username icon at the top right corner of the screen. Clicking on the dropdown will reveal a series of links, including your “online status,” your “profile”, and a link to your avatar. Select “Your profile.”
Your profile sorts your activity on the platform into “Overview,” “Posts,” “Comments,” “Saved,” “Hidden,” “Upvoted,” “Downvoted,” “Awards Received,” And “Awards Given.” For ease, navigate to “Posts” and search for the posts you want to delete. Once you find the post in question, simply look at the options below the post. However, you need to click on the three-line icon after options like the comment numbers, “Award,” “Share,” and “Save.” Clicking on the icon will reveal several more options, including “delete”. Click on delete to delete the post.
Mobile app
Unlike the desktop website, you cannot delete posts or comments in the mobile website version. However, you can on the mobile app with steps similar to the desktop version. Go to your profile by clicking on the profile icon at the top right corner of your screen. After that, click on the “My Profile” option.
When you navigate to the posts section of your profile, search for the post you want to delete. After finding it, click on the three-dot icon at the top-left corner right above the post. This will reveal a new window with several options, including “Share,” “Save,” “Copy text,” etc. Find “Delete post” below “hide” and click on it to delete the post.
Like deleting posts, deleting comments also follow the same steps on Reddit’s mobile app and desktop version. For the desktop version, instead of going to “posts,” navigate to “comments” instead. To delete each comment, simply look at the options below it. However, you need to click on the three-line icon after options like the comment numbers, “Award,” “Share,” and “Save.” Clicking on the icon will reveal several more options, including “delete”. Click on delete to delete the post.
The same step applies to the mobile app. Simply navigate to “Comments” instead of “Posts” on your mobile app. For each comment, click on the three-dot icon at the top-left corner right above it. This will reveal a new window with several options, including “Share,” “Save,” “Copy text,” etc. Find “Delete post” below “hide” and click on it to delete the post.
Old Reddit
If you are a stickler for the old version of Reddit, you can also clear your Reddit history on it through your profile. Locate your username at the top right corner of your screen and click on it to get to your Reddit profile. Unlike the new desktop design, the old website does not distinguish your posts from the overview, so you have to delete your posts from the overview section.
Locate the relevant post from the overview. You will find the option to delete underneath the post, among the other options in the same place. Click on it to delete the post.
Deleting your Reddit history automatically
One way to automatically delete your Reddit history is by using the third-party app Reddelete. To do this, go to this page via google chrome on your PC or Mac. Here you will find the extension that will help with the deletion. Click on install to install it. You may need to opt-out of the new design for the extension to work. Otherwise, the extension will switch your browser automatically to the old design.
Deleting your Reddit search history
You can delete your Reddit search history via the Reddit app or desktop browser.
Reddit app
To clear your search history on the Reddit app, click your image icon at the top right corner of the screen. This will reveal a panel that displays “my profile,” “create a community,” and others. Click on “Settings” at the bottom of the panel.
After clicking on “settings,” scroll to the “advanced” category and search for “clear local history” underneath “open links.” Tapping it will reveal a pop-up asking if you want to clear your local history – click on it.
Desktop website
Clearing your search history via desktop is slightly tricky due to how your search history is saved. Your computer stores your search history within your web browser when you use the desktop website version of Reddit instead of the Reddit website. Likewise, the primary Reddit website keeps your history in the browser cache. Meanwhile, all your searches on the old Reddit website get saved in the browser’s autofill history.
To eliminate all your Reddit search history, you require clearing or deleting autofill and cached data through your web browser settings. Doing this removes every autofill data you have entered on all the websites you have visited, including Reddit’s. However, you can also delete specific search terms If you would rather not delete all your search history. Selecting a search field on old and new designs will bring up a list of old searches. Clicking the X or trash icon beside a search term will delete such term from your browser’s autofill history or cache.
