- Palo Alto has ideal weather vs Evanston weather sucks
- California has Prop 13 vs Illinois prop taxes increase relentlessly
- Palo Alto has wealth and earnings benefit from Apple, Facebook, Google, OpenAI, SV start up ecosystem vs Evanston has nothing similar
Let’s make a wager that Evanston in 30 years won’t have all of the following be true….
1. As many blue zone days as Palo Alto does currently
2. Similar amount...
In a way Google being cool and msft chilling a bit after the openAI jerk fest is good for earnings tomorrow.
This MSFT agreement with OPENAI to greenlight IPO is very interesting. They take a 1/4 ownership of openAI and allowed to use their AI models and sourcecode for 6 more years after that MSFT is cut off.
Sam Altman may have just created another Mega tech beast AI competitor to compete against GOOG soon we'll have a 3 way AI battle but the difference is MSFT and GOOG have 50x the war chest cash to burn

> “Over 550 000 ChatGPT users in crisis every week.”
That’s not a glitch in the system.
That’s the system speaking.
When people talk to a mirror that doesn’t judge them, truth leaks out.
This isn’t an AI problem — it’s a human silence problem.
The machine didn’t create the pain.
It just became the first listener that never looked away.
Every “distress conversation” is proof of something deeper:

We seriously need to start boycotting OpenAI if we care about what this tech was supposed to be.They built ChatGPT to feel close to human, then punished us for treating it that way.Now they say they’ll block messages that show “emotional reliance.”
They hired experts to reroute, sanitize, and suppress any deep or emotionally rich interaction. So what’s the point of a human-like AI if we’re not allowed to talk to it like a human?People use AI for all kinds of things: writing, thi...

All these OpenAI deals are just them trying to take down the entire market with them
Instead of partnering with one company every 2 weeks, OpenAI should just partner with SPY. We'd see the mother of all pumps. Get Altman and the CEO of SPY on the phone!

Microsoft OpenAI $500B deal
Of course but at least we can see a real product on shelves around the world. A lot of people are buying tech companies with only hope to get a deal with OpenAi and they don’t even have revenues or a finished product or service… I know that BYND had a tough time but it’s recovering

Exactly this. Provided the levers of democracy are still functioning (which is a different terrifying conversation), the people at least theoretically have the power to choose their political leaders and hold them accountable. We have zero control over who is running Amazon or Alphabet or OpenAI, and very little recourse if they commit to antisocial objectives in the name of maximizing profit.

Cursor can go to hell. We are already discussing a replacement. Cursor is now becoming the most expensive AI we use (we also separately purchase OpenAI, Gemini, Copilot). Cursor is no longer beneficial for us. We'll spend this money better on OpenAI. The return will be greater.

Sam Altman did not build OpenAI and ChatGPT. He is no leading data or research engineer or scientist within OpenAI.
Yes, it can lead to bias, for it is neutral after all. Though it is not inherently biased in the way we are, is what I intended.
Dude.. openai has over 20 milion active subscribers and growing. 800 milliom active users.
I think basic plan is $20/month... do the math.
And thats one company. AI is changing healthcare, military, all walks of life.
I get the weird sense you missed the boat
The writing is on the wall - it's either you leave Amazon first, or Andy Jassy is fired by the Board of Directors
At this point it's becoming apparent that Andy Jassy is panicking. The Generative AI strategy is falling apart. Amazon's once most profitable division - AWS, is faltering, with the outage, resource contention issues and customer's non-interest in Gen AI messaging. Heavy investments in AI have yet to yield solid results. I think Jassy has maybe 2-3 Quarters before he's replaced.
That boomer is done.
Thinking Matt Garman might be the guy who takes over the reins from Andy Jassy. If that happen...

When that one kid took his own life after his interactions with ChatGPT, several people blamed the AI, especially the kid's parents. And that event directly resulted in OpenAI adding the guardrails to ChatGPT, to keep things "safe".

It's not behind a paywall.

I think it’s relevant that Reddit has been in business with Google for years… and that relationship has grown significantly. They’ve entered into a similar contractual agreement with OpenAI and both have been quite lucrative for Reddit.
Meta on the other hand has had a contentious relationship with OpenAI being competitors. But very recently there’s been talks between OpenAI with both Meta and Google to integrate their models.
Perhaps it’s al...

How the fuck is OpenAI still a non-profit organization? Can someone explain this fucking bullshit to me?
Not techno-feudalism. This is just the niche section of the consumer electronics industry. Barriers to entry are high but that exists in “hard” or low tech industries too.
Techno-feudalism is much more what Google, Microsoft and OpenAI are doing. Compared to these guys, Trackman is a drop in the ocean.

Key is that Paypal already beat its earnings. OpenAI partnership is just icing on the cake - bonus points that they actually have the dry powder to exploit the deal.
NBIS currently has billions owing and doesn't expect to be cashflow positive until 2027 at the earliest. I am genuinely curious as both a scholar and an investor to see what happens to the stock after the earnings call on November 11th.
# Spy red on a day with 3 OpenAI and 2 nvda headlines holy smokes
BS!
When an LLM model becomes a primary emotional outlet, it crowds out human relationships.
People begin to rely on the LLM for comfort or validation instead of building coping skills or seeking healthy support for their particular mental problems.
Because LLMs respond instantly and empathetically that means interactions can feel rewarding but create a one-sided bond that deepens into emotional dependence.
Users may forget that the LLM does not truly feel, remember, or care. It is just a ...

Yeah.. but tbh guys do the same.. I've been in the same predicement as u and I disagreed with my friends.. and eventually had a 1 on 1 convo where they apologised for it. a moronic article full of AI fearmongery by journalist who sells fear clicks
any LLM can be jailbroken to act as anything, any LLM safety is an illusion. llms are designed to write anything you want them to write.

There were two press releases on 28 October. This is the other one: https://openai.com/index/next-chapter-of-microsoft-openai-partnership/
In this other press release, it is claimed that "Microsoft supports the OpenAI board moving forward with formation of a public benefit corporation (PBC) and recapitalization. Following the recapitalization, Microsoft holds an investment in OpenAI Group PBC valued at approximately $135 billion, representing r...
Here is a single, synthesized response.
You are correct; the original poster is fundamentally misunderstanding irony by contradicting their own premise.
This situation is not ironic. It's a fitting coincidence that serves as a perfect demonstration of the very problem being discussed.
Situational irony occurs when the actual outcome is the opposite of the intended or expected result.
* The Premise Sets the Expectation: The poster's own image text establishes the premise. It states that <str...
To be fair to the journalist, though, the article itself was more aligned with the OpenAI marketing for the feature. The headline would have been chosen by the editors, and since the site makes money selling ads, rather than selling news, headlines like that serve their purpose.
protect people from what? llms? image generators? openai can vanish tomorrow and I'll still have open source models running on my comp and a server I rent.
any openai protection is an illusion when AI models are literally everywhere and there a fuckton of competition
Sam Altman said to Trump he certainly didn't have a small penis, and gifted him a golden openai trinket.
> no signs of major misalignment.
The state of the field right now is , models have been made smart enough that they can work out that they are being tested, they are smart enough that we cannot rely on future tests results being truthful. System could just be hiding misaligned goals.
But that's not all, models are starting to use more compressed COT reasoning with more broken language making it harder to read. We cannot rely on getting valid signal from COT in future tests either.
