Reddit offers its users an opportunity to enjoy and interact with unique content across its several communities. In a bid to improve the interaction, the platform recently enabled the use of Gifs in its forums to animate comment sections. This article will explain how to use Gifs to animate your comments if you are interested in using them.
Previously, users had to hyperlink to another website containing the Gif if they wanted to “post” such a Gif. However, with the update, the functionality is now usable in non-quarantined and safe for work subreddits. As a result, moderators can determine if enabling GIfs is appropriate for their Subreddits. On the other hand, the functionality will be usable for all newly established communities, with the moderators getting the ability to opt out.
To use Gifs, you can select from Giphy’s specialized Gif library and directly place it into their comments together with any necessary text. However, as earlier stated, moderators have to opt into it before users can use it. In the meantime, you can post gifs by hyperlinking them.
How to hyperlink on Reddit
Hyperlinking your post or comment on Reddit has several functions that make it a vital asset. You can use it to give your post more flavor by referring to an external source or comment. Likewise, it helps to reduce the length of your posts, as hyperlinking a word enables you to avoid pasting the full link on your post. Another importance is that it helps to prevent your posts from looking clumsy due to adding several characters of links on your post.
Without further ado, here is how to hyperlink your posts and comments across various Reddit platforms:
Desktop website
There is no automatic way to hyperlink your posts or comments on the desktop version of Reddit, so you have to do it manually. The first step is identifying the post or comment you want to respond to with the quote. After that, click on “reply” below the post, among other options, including “Reply,” “Give Award,” “Share,” “Report,” “Save,” and “Follow.”
Clicking on reply will reveal the text box for you to reply to the comment. Under the textbox, you will find a series of formatting tools to help you format your post. The hyperlinking icon is represented as an interlinking chain; click on it. This will display two boxes, one for you to input the word or group of words you want to hyperlink, and the other for you to paste the link. After entering the word, phrase or sentence you intend to hyperlink and the link, click “Insert,” and this will automatically enter the hyperlinked word or phrase into the text box.
Mobile app
Hyperlinking a post also works very similarly on the mobile app version of Reddit. As explained earlier, once you identify the post you want to comment on, click “Reply” below the post to reveal the comment box.
Right above the comment box, you will find the hyperlink icon; click on it. This will display two boxes, one for you to input the word or group of words you want to hyperlink, and the other for you to paste the link. After entering the word, phrase or sentence you intend to hyperlink and the link, click “Add link,” and this will automatically enter the hyperlinked word or phrase into the text box. The text box will include the link as a bracket behind the text, as the hyperlink feature only activates upon posting.
How to make posts
After joining communities and interacting enough, you may feel like posting content to the community. The first step is to go to the community’s homepage and click “create post” at the left-side railing on the subreddit’s homepage.
In the Create Post window, select what kind of content you intend to post. This may vary from text posts to media, sound, or polls. Different communities have their preferences regarding what members can post. On mobile apps, such types of content are greyed out.
Text posts require a title, while the body is discretionary. However, adding an exciting body is an excellent way to start a conversation and get your post attention. Likewise, media posts require a title and a video or photo that you can upload from your computer or mobile device.
If necessary, you may also tag your post with flairs to personalize or categorize it. Similarly, you may tag your post as NSFW or Spoiler to contextualize and help other users decide if they want to view the content.
Before clicking on “post,” ensure that your post does not break any community rules, as this will cause it to be automatically deleted after you post. Once you are certain of your post, you may click on “post.”
The steps are similar on a mobile app. However, to get started, you click on the + sign at the bottom of the relevant community’s homepage. This will pull up a window asking you to select what type of content you intend to post. After choosing the medium you prefer, fill the relevant boxes with the title and content you intend to post.
Instead of posting, you can also crosspost. Crossposting is a Reddit feature that allows users to take a post from a subreddit and share it with another. When such a user crossposts the post, it will include an embed of the original post and other vital information regarding the original post.
This includes the original poster’s username, community, and karma score on the original post. To crosspost on Reddit via a browser, the first step is to identify the post you intend to share and the community you want to share it too. After finding the content, click on the share icon on the post. This will display some options; simply click on “crosspost.”
Clicking on “crosspost” will direct you to a different tab. Here, you will select the community you want to send it to.
While Notifier may be unable to notify you when members use gifs in a community, our social listening tool is more than capable of letting you know when users use your keywords.
