This is my one beef with the mask… I can’t get a good sweaty, high heart rate, heavy CrossFit style workout in with a mask on. All other cases, I agree with the “minor inconvenience” sentiment. But the gym…. C’mon! It becomes a major inconvenience. Anyway, have a good workout!!! 🤙🏼

> CrossFit takes a lot of short cuts to lift heavier weights/do more reps. And what shortcut is being taken here? She clearly has the strength and ability, she just missed. It happens in technical lifts. You haven't actually identified any form issues or technical errors.

Firstly don't be at all concerned what other people's level of fitness is. The gym is a tool to help you achieve your goal. Don't feel self conscious, most people are too wrapped up in their own lives to notice anyone else anyway. Start on the treadmill or cycle and get into a consistent routine. It doesn't matter if it's only 10 minutes at first. The point at the start is to get into that routine. Make sure to stretch afterwards. 20 minutes total on the gym floor before heading back to the change rooms is fine at first. Build up the length of the workout until you can do 45 minutes to an hour. Just light difficulty at first and then increase it. You don't need to be panting like you're out of breath at first. Do what you feel comfortable with. If it gets too hard then dial it back a bit. It's more important in the early stages to go for longer workouts to help your endurance and familiarity with the gym. The treadmill is a good place to observe what goes on in the gym. Watch people use the equipment and then when you're ready try a few of the machines. Chest press, shoulder press, lat pulldown, rows and squats. Good form is the most important. Try a few sets after your cardio. Weight workouts are important for losing weight. You're not going to turn into a hulk by doing this. You want big compound movements rather than isolated ones (e.g. avoid that machine where you sit down and turn you thighs out and in, that machine is a bit of a joke and gyms mainly put it in to sell memberships because people think it removes fat from thighs, fat removal doesn't work like that) When you feel comfortable hiring a trainer for a few sessions is a great idea. You can watch them from the treadmill or cycle at first to see which ones you might like. The good ones will help their clients do exercises correctly. If they aren't watching their clients carefully then don't go with them. The right trainer might actually approach you. While some of them are in your face and annoying there are others that are good at understanding a variety of personalities and will be able to emphasise with you. Avoid the loud ones who likely put on a big public display to make up for their lack of knowledge. When you become more familiar with the gym environment you can then try different types of workouts. Circuit training, boxing, crossfit, classes, whatever motivates you. I'm not saying you can't start doing this immediately if you want, but I think there's a higher chance of success for an introvert if they take a strategy of observing first. Something like one on one boxing mixed with circuit exercises can be quite enjoyable when you get into a routine and you can burn a lot of calories in half an hour if you're limited on time, but I'd still recommend finding time for longer lighter workouts like incline treadmill walking a few times a week which will more exclusively target fat cells. A good diet and avoiding alcohol (as much as you can) are important in helping you achieve your goal. Bigger breakfasts and lunches are okay but try to get into a routine of smaller dinners. This will give you a better night's sleep as your body won't be preoccupied with trying to digest a heavy meal. Source: was a trainer for a few years until I got fed up with having to act extroverted all the time. It was exhausting.

CrossFit takes a lot of short cuts to lift heavier weights/do more reps. One of the easiest examples is kipping during pullups

I bet increasing that to 405(maybe even 365) would have tilted that event in Rauno's favor. But damn those crossfit guys are good at warmup weights!

Every word of this. Be a genuinely good person. Help out your friends, coworkers, and be kind to the person you’re dating. If you’re getting drunk with hangovers after 24 or so, get a handle on you’re drinking or stop. Save at least 10% out of every paycheck, stick it in a mutual fund account and pretend that it doesn’t exist. Don’t get caught up into macho definitions of manhood. I’m a straight guy and I’ve been making quilts for 20 year. I also do CrossFit and run obstacle races.

I don’t have the work capacity to work out 5 days a week at the moment; nor the free time. I’ve had some problems with my knees and hips over the years. At a recent appointment with my orthopaedic surgeon he said I need to focus on building strength / increasing bone density. He also said that I need to avoid unpredictably torque vectors in my joints and lifting weight whilst extremely fatigued. So he basically told me to quit CrossFit. I have some experience with the prescribed movements as I was more active when younger. And I’m a very considerate gym user.

If it was a science sub, and we were discussing relativity, radiation and photon and stuff I would assume you would know who are Einstein, Hawkins, Bose etc or the current top notch scientists of the topic so that I can quote and barter knowledge. Dude, i am shocked that people would downvote over me saying OHP is better than BTN for growth. Like frigging seriously, what the hell is wrong with people here. I am super impressed and amused with the quality of people I am talking to. No wonder if i read people supporting crossfit pullups over basic pullups.. oh wait.

I feel like context is important here - there’s a few different perspectives you could see this from depending on how it went down. Wouldn’t stress too much. Think of it as a lesson learnt - you underestimated the weight, we have all done it and probably will all get it wrong again at some point. 2-3 months in to your CrossFit journey is still very early days to be hitting workouts at rx level. I’m more like 4 years in and still very rarely will I rx any workout with a barbell in it.

Because they're intimidated by strongman, CrossFit stays light enough for them to think they can run their dumb mouths more frequently.

I started CrossFit almost two months ago with no prior lifting experience. For two years before this I had been doing Orangetheory so it was just 25lb dumbbells at the heaviest. My box held a required foundations class prior to starting the workouts which was really informative. Since starting the workouts I’ve noticed that I seem to be unbalanced with the barbell on upper body movements - power clean, snatch, overhead squats, etc. In todays workout we had hang power cleans - I keep the weight light for right now as I continue to work on my form. I noticed that when flipping the barbell up it started to become uneven, as though my body is favoring my right side and so it wobbles a bit and isn’t straight. Because of this my right shoulder seems to be sore frequently, whereas my left feels perfectly fine. Is this normal when starting out? Do I just need to work on balance and mobility more?

Why do people get so mad over this? In CrossFit it helps to clarify the standard. Snatch generally means it’s down to the athlete whether to power or squat. Does it really hurt anyone to say squat snatch?

Are you following a weightlifting program? If not then do so, rest days are built in and you'll probably make better progress On my rest days I like to do conditioning work. Steady state runs, interval training, CrossFit WODs, or LISS cardio are all good options If I'm recovering from a particular session I like to pick a conditioning workout from here, the Juarez valley one is great with front squats to recover from a heavy squat session the day before https://www.reddit.com/r/weightroom/comments/pimzfr/per_request_my_free_ebook_mythical_strengths/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share I exercise 7 days a week, to me a rest day is not a day with no exercise, it's a day where I don't lift heavy. Heavy being the very key word here

I know the pain. I'm an ex rugby player who went through a weightlifting phase and now doing crossfit regularly. I have a 30" waist but I can't buy anything less than a 34" or I'm going to rip seams. Went suit shopping recently and it was horrible. Having broad shoulders and back with a relatively skinny middle and then big thighs means nothing fits without altering it. add on to that I'm a whopping 5'4 tall and it means i can't even use the shops designed for larger frames! Next, Topman (I don't even know why I tried), M&S, Suits Direct (not too bad but not amazing) and then finally Stokes before o found something that would work with only leg length alterations. Burton's used to be my go-to for clothes shopping as their stuff was decent and actually fit reasonably since it stretched well. I did a big online shop from them mid pandemic so didn't need much more clothes for a while. Just found out they no longer seem to have stores.

It’s popular to shit on cross fit but the best trainers I had were all part of my old crossfit gym. i’ve since transitioned over to traditional weightlifting only but they really helped me dial in my form for squats bench and deadlift.

It's vacation time again, which means that after about a year of being away for my first year of college, I'm back at home again. Usually, that would mean that I'd be together with my entire family again, but it turns out that it's only gonna be the the two of us: me, and you, my older sister. Apparently, our parents wanted to go on a two-month cruise to celebrate their silver anniversary, and that's all good and well. On paper, this sounds like a good time for us. We have the house to ourselves, and I stay out of your way, and you try to ignore me as best as you can, which isn't exactly much of a hard task, really. I usually just stay in my room, playing games or reading, only going out for the bathroom or some food. Thing is, despite your more mature looks and position as the older sibling, you seem to have regressed to your teenage habits of bugging me at every possible opportunity. It also doesn't help that since mom and dad left, you've been wearing skimpier clothes, something they'll never allow you to do in their presence. Is this your late rebellious phase? It's not even that hot of a summer this year. Are you doing this on purpose? Do you just love to show off how much your body has changed since you started crossfit, reveling on the way my eyes can't help but wander whenever you knock on my door to complain about something or the other? Well, I don't care anymore. I've had enough, and I've got to do something. It's time I show you a couple of tricks I learned in college. \*\*\* There you were again on the couch, hogging the television, lying down without a care in the world. You looked so relaxed, so chill, so defenseless while you obliviously browse your phone. Jesus, that white crop top and short shorts that show off your toned thighs and midriff will be the death of me. Well, that's fine. I've got a plan to bring my paws closer to your smooth skin soon, and the first step starts right now. "Hey, sis!", I call out to you as I approach, pretending to be as casual as I could, "Look at this." I hold out my phone to you as you sit up, my butt taking up the spot that your head was just resting on. I don't know what you expected to see, maybe a meme or a short video, but I'm pretty sure that it isn't this. On my screen was a collection of collected and interconnected spirals of a myriad of colors, bouncing around and melting into one another, spinning around and around, slowly taking up the entirety of your vision and attention. "Don't look away, sis. Just focus on the spirals", I say. "Don't the spirals look good, sis? They're making you feel good, too. Looking at the spirals is putting you at ease. You're feeling the weight on your shoulders slowly disappear as you look deeper and deeper into them. Take deep breaths, sis. You feel your thoughts slow down and your body feel sluggish as you now focus on my voice. My voice, sis, the voice of your brother, the voice of your new master. From now on, you'll begin to call me sir, do you understand? Deep breaths, my pet. You're now master's dirty little pet. Listening to your master's voice makes you happy, and whatever master says must be right. Whatever master says, you have to follow. Whatever master wants, you have to give. What does master want? He wants you to show him his tits whenever he snaps his fingers. And whenever you do something for master, it feels good. Obeying master feels good because he owns you, and because he owns you, following him feels right. Master's touch brings you pleasure, and his praise makes it even more intense, and this pleasure is the kind you can't resist. And why would you resist? Master only wants you to feel good, so it's better if you just let master have his way with you. Whenever master says slumber, you'll fall back into the spirals again, sinking and sinking until all your thoughts are gone. When master says awaken, you swim back up, slowly recovering your consciousness consciousness, forgetting all but his orders. Do you understand, pet? Good girl." After giving my little speech, one that I've practiced and used a good number of times already, enough to be able to recite it off my head, I finally bring you back from the trance. "Awaken". And as you slowly regain your bearings, finally coherent enough to ask about what just happened, I issue you my first order by snapping my fingers. \*\*\* Hi, all. Hypno prompt again. This time, I want to experiment with a number of different triggers. The snap to show tits, maybe a couple trigger words for separate actions such as when I ask you who's a good girl, you immediately drop to all fours and pant like a bitch in the heat, or when I tell you to present, you go and drop anything you're doing to spread your legs for me and show me exactly what you have to offer, maybe even forcing you to stop all movement when I say freeze, unable to move nor react until I melt you, and a couple more ideas. If you want to roleplay, just send me a chat or DM saying I'm master's obedient slutty pet or some variation of the phrase. Of course, the sis backdrop could just be removed and you could just be my roommate or something else. Prompt's flexible, as per usual. Limits are excessive violence, bathroom stuff, and minors. Have a great day!

I recommend reading Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe or anything by Dan John. Pavel Tsatsouline's Power to the People also helped me years ago by emphasizing the deadlift and shoulder press. I don't use kettlebells though. The best would be to get coaching in olympic style weightlifting. A local rec center or crossfit gym could offer such coaching.

CrossFit is going to get so many more eyes on this event this weekend because thr events are going to be sandwiched between the CrossFit events. We should be thanking them.
