Why does alcohol have to be involved? Speaking as someone who never liked the sensation of being drunk, or even with a buzz, just wondering. Are people lacking the ability to find joy in the ordinary things, pizza night, movies, gaming, even board games, without alcohol?

I have a beer with a meal when I go out, I might have 2 if I want more... I'll go out for this meal maybe once a month. I might also buy a bottle of wine to share with my girlfriend once a month to share in front of the TV or over a homemade pizza night. At less than $100 a month (probably closer to $50-80/month), I don't need a budget for it because it doesn't pay a significant part of my life - I am in control of the things that are important in my life, and a beverage comes along here and there when I am out enjoying life. I compare alcohol to something like a cake... Have it on occasions and sure, take one home to spoil yourself every now and then, but you don't have to eat a slice of cake every day after work, buy a whole crate of cakes to put in the storage in case friends come over, and have 12 cakes, back-to-back on the weekend. I hang out at the beach, ride bikes with friends, host picnics and BBQ's and just chill out... None of these things HAVE to have alcohol present, despite societies perception of 'having a good time' in 2021. So yeah, no booze budget for me, it's just not needed. You can make as assumption if not having a budget for this lifestyle could be problematic for me :)

I once saw an obese woman eating a slice of pizza on a treadmill at pf. It was sad and hilarious! The irony of trying to lose weight but the inability to resist the temptation of free pizza. Not sure if every pf has a pizza night but the one i was a member at had free pizza once a month 8 years ago. That being said ain’t nothing wrong with pf they have everything you need for a solid workout

Is it not equally rude to not accommodate your partners speaking preferences? My husband has trouble processing things but I tend to talk with extra detail or slight rabbit trails. It’s how I process information. He demands I just share the specifics. “I’m leaving for 2 hours to grocery shop” with no extra details. I tend to say “I’m done paying the bills but need to run by the bank really quick because we need tip money for pizza night, then I’m going to the grocery store. If there’s anything you need text it to me in the next hour. I’m thinking of getting tortellini for dinner if that’s ok or did you still want to try out that new Mediterranean place tonight. If I remember I’m going to stop for gas too unless it’s still too hot and there’s ice cream in the car.” He can’t follow any of that. But his version for me 1) doesn’t give him the full idea of what I’m up to 2) doesn’t give some wiggle room to the timeframe. If I say 2 hrs and don’t text him to say it’s going to be 2.25 hours he gets mad I didn’t do what I said I was going to do. I have a very hard time keeping track of the time and how long tasks will take though and often remember things like going to the gas station or pharmacy only after I see the building as I am driving. 3) it’s reminding me of what I need to do while I’m out. If I don’t verbally process it I will not remember to do it. It doesn’t really work if I talk to myself vs talk to someone else. 4) I still have no idea what dinner plans he wants to have. 5) he inevitably will send me back out for a task later because “I didn’t know you were going to the gas station too. You should have gotten a Redbox movie” So by accommodating his inability to listen to rambling stories by myself it limits my productivity and my feeling of being listened too. But since “that’s the way his brain works” it’s FU to how mine does and I have to just accommodate him. The automatic thought that the partner doesn’t care because they don’t do or say something the way you want disregards how their mental process works as well. He won’t listen to my rambling and then let me then recap with “main points: grocery store. About 2 hrs” and everything else I mentioned he just ignores so he doesn’t know dinner plans, asks me again if I’d paid the bill yet, doesn’t text me the list of items he wanted but is mad I “forgot” something, and ask why I didn’t get gas when I said I was going to (aforementioned ice cream was melting.). Anyway, long story short. His inability to mentally process lists or multiple seemingly unrelated pieces of information makes my workload and mental load numerous times more difficult. But it’s expected because “that’s how his brain works.” Also, he regularly hyper focuses on one thing and will often talk about it for 2-4 hours. I am expected to listen and be engaged even if I could care less about the subject, especially in excruciating detail. But he won’t listen to my 3 minute ramble about my plans for the day or something else.

Does he take you and the kids out to eat? Have a pizza night? To me that should count. Look at it from his perspective. All food, clothing, housing and health care is provided by his labor. Not to mention other items. Maybe a little bit of free time every week for you while he watches the kids will help.
